Starting Over - Again

Six years ago, having to buy a house near one of the most expensive cities in the world meant that we were looking for a "fixer upper."  We are not "fixer upper" people.  We have no skills and always believed there are other people who DO know how upgrade houses and they should be the one's to do it! Unbelievably, we found a house we thought would suit us - eventually.  The house had a decent size kitchen and a master bathroom.  That master bath was a deal breaker for me.  The market was high; it was about a year and a half before the bubble burst.  This bubble burst also burst our plans to slap some paint on our dreary walls, pull up 30 yr. old shag carpeting, sell it for at least 50% more than what we paid.  Why not?  Everyone else in our new town was doing it.  That, as I said, was six years ago.  I don't have to give a history lesson to explain why we are still in our house six years later, plan to be here for quite a while longer, and are finally putting some love into the house.   Here are some before pictures:
The original kitchen.  1964 cabinets, and original laminate.

The master bedroom.  I guess once it was emptied it was a clean slate.

The upstairs hallway bathroom.  There are no words.   But it was a very good size bathroom for two warring boys.

I did,  however, like our little front porch.  Still do.

So this is just a little taste of the world I walked into and only now, six years later, believe that we will stay.  Time for some elbow grease...
